BA to cut 25 jobs
26.05.09
British Airways has confirmed 25 jobs are to be lost following a reduction in its BA CityFlyer service between London City and Edinburgh Airport, the BBC reports. The airline said ‘surplus’ cabin and flight crew positions had been created after one of its planes was written-off.
In February a BAE Systems-manufactured Avro RJ100 aircraft lost its front wheels when it experienced a 'hard landing' at London City on arrival from Amsterdam. As a result of the loss of the plane, the CityFlyer service between Edinburgh and London has been scaled back from 8 to 6 return flights a day.
A BA spokeswoman told the BBC that staff had been informed of the cutbacks by letter and discussions with unions were ongoing. She said that the airline hoped the reductions could be made through voluntary redundancies, retirement and converting full-time jobs to part-time.
