Council leader wants airport ownership clarity
23.12.09
The city's transport leader has said the development of Edinburgh Airport risks being held back by ‘red tape’, if a speedy solution is not found in the battle between owner BAA and competition bosses, the Evening News reports. The future ownership of the airport was thrown in to fresh doubt after BAA won a partial victory against the Competition Commission's ruling forcing it to sell either Edinburgh or Glasgow airport, along with Gatwick and Stansted.
On Monday, the Competition Appeal Tribunal concluded ‘with the greatest reluctance’ that a claim by BAA of ‘apparent bias’ in the Commission's decision was successful. Councillor Gordon Mackenzie, Edinburgh's transport convener, told the newspaper: ‘As the UK's fastest growing airport, it is vital that we get clarity on the future ownership of Edinburgh Airport. Now, more than ever, we must ensure continued investment.’
