New airport car rental centre opened
16.05.09
A £10m car rental centre at Edinburgh Airport has been officially opened, offering a one stop shop for passengers at Scotland's busiest airport. Rally driver and TV presenter Penny Mallory opened the new centre, which brings together all of the airport's car rental companies under one roof.
The development is part of a planned £100m investment by Edinburgh Airport owners BAA over the next 5 years. A covered walkway links the centre, one of the largest of its kind in the UK, to the airport's main terminal. The centre also includes a new car rental pick up and return area, next to the Hilton airport hotel.
Work is also progressing on a £41m departure lounge extension at the airport, with the first phase on schedule to open to passengers in November. The development will offer more space to relax, a wider choice of bars, shops and restaurants and a new security search area.
