Work on terminal forecourt launched
09.03.10
Steel-coated concrete bollards are being installed at Edinburgh Airport as part of a major upgrade of the forecourt area in front of the terminal. Work on the security measures will see a complete overhaul of the old forecourt, with the work started on Monday and set to be completed in June, before the busy summer season peak.
The work will also see the bus lane in front of the airport resurfaced. While a through lane will stay open, this means that no traffic will be able to stop off in front of the terminal. All public bus services will be temporarily moved to the coach park next to the main terminal, however, this coach park will also be moved in the course of the work. The taxi drop-off area has already been relocated to a brand new permanent position.
The £3m scheme is part of a wider programme of investment and improvement at Edinburgh Airport, that will see a new security hall and upgraded departure lounge open later this year. Gordon Dewar, Edinburgh Airport's managing director, said: 'I would like to thank passengers in advance for their patience whilst we upgrade this important part of our airport.’
