Air France flight emergency
03.06.09
A full-scale emergency was declared at Edinburgh Airport yesterday evening after an Air France flight reported engine trouble. The plane, with 26 passengers and 6 crew on board, was due to fly to London City Airport but had been delayed from departing for almost an hour. Shortly after it did take off, the pilot reported a 'clunking noise' from the engine.
The Dornier 7328 aircraft was forced to circle overhead having taken off at 18:34 – 49 minutes late – before landing safety at 19:30. No reason was given for the initial flight delay, but we assume engine trouble. Witnesses said a convoy of fire engines and ambulances were in attendance for the 'full emergency landing'. Police had shut off parts of Glasgow Road to aid the arrival of the emergency vehicles.
An Edinburgh Airport spokesman said: ‘The crew reported a rough running engine and a full emergency was declared. The aircraft landed safely and an investigation is under way. The passengers have been allocated seats on a Bmi flight to Heathrow and transport will be laid on to take the passengers to London City.’
